Flicky Flick

Okie so everyone loves a good cat eye every now and then. It's really easy to just sweep a line of black eyeliner across your lid and extend it out slightly further than the eye. For this intensive blog I will draw pictures to show what I mean and explain better the processes and different techniques you can use! Getting the right 'flick' is all about eyeshape! The first point a lot of people miss is the angle of the flick is important. Look at your eye shape. Do you have 'normal' shaped eyes? If you do you, the best line to follow is about 30 degrees. You do not have to extend the line to any extent. You can have barely any flick or a long one! It's totally up to you. If you have an eye with nearly a complete level tear duct then go for a low angled flick. This helps to elongate the eye making the appearance of bigger eyes.

If you have particularly downward facing tear ducts you are able to draw a high line. This makes for the most cat eye appearance and you can get away with lower lines if you wish due to the downward angle of your tear duct.

The one thing you need to be careful of when choosing to do eyeliner is to make sure you do not over draw. If you have hooded eyes it is really easy to make your eyes look strange by having a line like the picture above. You can see one of the lid and most is covered by liner, this seems to make the eye look disconnected.

You can even use colour. Having a light green with a dark green eyeliner can look really nice. Or try just black eyeliner with a bright eye colour! Either way you can get some great new looks to wear out either day to day or on special occasions. It's all up to you!

Rimmel - Exaggerate Liquid Eyeliner in Black- £4.99

MAC - Penultimate Eye Liner in Rapid Black - £13.50
MAC - Liquid Eye Liner in Boot Black - £13.50

Lots of brands do many colours Barry M do a variety of colours and you can find eyeliners such as StayPerfect™ from No.7 for £8.50. These take a bit to get off but they stay put when applied so for nights where you may not be able to take your make up off till the next morning and still want to look nice then this is great!

All of this is my personal opinion, and I find the No.7 StayPerfect™ better than the MAC one and they have very similar colours.

Try a few and find your preference.

Remember! These are just tips! It is your decision if you wish to follow them!

Sensible Costs, Awesome Looks!

I'm currently a uni student so I don't have a lot of money, like us all! So, I follow a philosophy for cosmetics.

Don't compromise one product for another.

If you know something is good, for example I love the shadestick, I would spend on that and be happy for a long time, whereas I may find a cheaper one, find it's rubbish and buy a more expensive one after, meaning I've spent more money! But for example, if I want some bright colours I don't head straight for the MAC desk, I consider a few things:
  1. Have I used this product before (Am I experimenting?)?
  2. Will it be used a lot?
  3. Do I know I like it? (colours look different on skin than they do in the pot!)
  4. Do I NEED it? (haha, that's probably no to all of it but you know what I mean! Is it essential... like a mascara?)
  5. Is the expensive one the best product and irreplaceable? (Can I buy a similar product elsewhere for less without feeling less happy about it?)
If I answer No to most of them I choose to save! If I say yes, I'll splurge!

There is one product I religiously buy over all. My Chanel blusher. It's actually a bronzer, but I love it!! I use brown blusher because A. I'm not the most girliest of people and B. It suits my skin tone! It costs me a whopping £22.50 for one hit! However, It lasts me more than a year! I've had my current one since Christmas 2008 and it's not even through to the metal yet!! I've bought cheaper blushers and they're not pressed as much and last me a month tops, so... in the long term I'm probably saving ... *does some maths* If I spend £5 and it's been 14 months... I'd have spent £70!!! So it saves me masses of money! £50 so far and I'm probably not half way through it!!

So anyway, after that massive babble! Sometimes, to spend is to save! it's not true for all things... eyeliners will last you as long as any other eyeliner. If you're wanting a soft kohl a great company to go for is Rimmel, it's not that expensive and I use all of them, from their average pencil one to their plastic cased 'exaggerate' which comes with a little blender and sharpener ^_^. Neither are more than £8.

Tip of the day: Use Rimmel eyeliners in 'Black Magic' for under the eye for a less harsh look (than jet black) when you want under eye eyeliner!

Your eyes look smoking!

Haha, so ignore the cheesy title!

Something everyone seems to find desirable is smokey eyes! I hear so many people talking about how that girl looks awesome or this girl looks awesome but it wouldn't suit her.

This is total myth!!

Smokey eyes can be for everyone! It just depends on your skin tone and the colours you use!

Smokey eyes DOES NOT limit to just using black and browns. You can use a variety of colours! From pink to green, it's just different tones.

Here's a green example, I quite like this. It goes well with her cool skin tone, you can easily adapt looks to suit you, so for example the 'smokeyness' of this example is not that extreme, if you want it darker use more dark! It's really that simple! To create a good smokey eye always use more than one tone of a colour, or a colour with black/brown (becareful what you put with brown!). This one has no 'flick' it just follows the shape of her eye socket. It's up to you what you choose to do. I find this works well with people who don't have a downward tear duct!

There's a variety of smokey eye designs. You can have flicks or follow the eye socket as I have said. You can place shadow only on the eyelid or you can follow your bottom waterline (Cheryl Cole does this a lot to give an even darker effect).

If you use colour, for example if you are a cool skinned person and use peach and browns to get your smokey eye you can then line the lid with a brown eyeliner to give definition and consolidate the look.

Dark skinned people can get away with nearly every colour of the spectrum!! Experiment a little with the colours you didn't think would work, you might be pleasantly surprised!

As many tips as I give you, the best advice I can give is to experiment! Have a girly night in with a film and your make-up bag! Buy a packet of facial wipes so you can quickly take off and reapply! You don't need to bother with foundation etc if you don't want. If you're simply finding colours that suit you can do this without foundation it will still look good if it suits you and no one's going to see you!

If you're desperate for the black smokey eye I have tryed SO MANY different eyeshadows in black, I find some of them can be badly pigmented and no matter how many times you go over the same spot that black eyeshadow looks grey and cloudy at best! A few of my favourite black eyeshadows include:

MAC - Eye shadow in Black Tied - £11 or £9 for refill pan for pro palette

Rimmel - Colour Rush in Jet Black - Around £5

For smokey eyes you're going to be packing on the colour! I seriously advise getting an eye primer so that the colour can stick to it. For a long time I would put up with looking a bit worse for wear by the end of the night just so my eyes would look amazing at the beginning! I bought a shadestick from MAC (£13) and I've never looked back! It's amazing how much this really does help but it does. There are a variety of primers, the shadestick comes in a variety of colours but I use beige-ing so it works with all my looks! Urban decay also do a really good primer which a lot of people shout about. That's around £13 too. There are cheaper primers you can get, one I saw the other day is available from MeMeMe cosmetics (available at Superdrug stores) which was only £7. I don't know how good this one is though!

So I hope this helped! Ask any questions as always and I'll get back to you either privately or by posting it as a new entry on the blog! If you want it private please tell me or it could be published!!

As always, all pictures are credited to their original sources and the pictures in this post are NOT my own. They are used only, for illustrating my explanations and reuse of this picture is not permitted.

Hey!

Okie so this is my first entry for this new blog I've set up. I hope you enjoy it!

I'm going to work towards linking to youtube videos that I think are good, talking about new products from all sorts of brands such as designer to high street brands, so they'll be something for everyone.

I'll give tips for a variety of different people and make sure that you can get the most of it =]

If you wish to send me an email asking or requesting something go ahead and I will post the answer as a blog entry or if you would like it to be confidential I can also do that!

I'm currently studying to gain a diploma in make-up artistry to back up my experience but I think everyone knows, from being exposed to people through the internet that you don't need qualifications to be amazing at make-up artistry =D

I hope you like the blog! Send me your comments
