Don't compromise one product for another.
If you know something is good, for example I love the shadestick, I would spend on that and be happy for a long time, whereas I may find a cheaper one, find it's rubbish and buy a more expensive one after, meaning I've spent more money! But for example, if I want some bright colours I don't head straight for the MAC desk, I consider a few things:
- Have I used this product before (Am I experimenting?)?
- Will it be used a lot?
- Do I know I like it? (colours look different on skin than they do in the pot!)
- Do I NEED it? (haha, that's probably no to all of it but you know what I mean! Is it essential... like a mascara?)
- Is the expensive one the best product and irreplaceable? (Can I buy a similar product elsewhere for less without feeling less happy about it?)
There is one product I religiously buy over all. My Chanel blusher. It's actually a bronzer, but I love it!! I use brown blusher because A. I'm not the most girliest of people and B. It suits my skin tone! It costs me a whopping £22.50 for one hit! However, It lasts me more than a year! I've had my current one since Christmas 2008 and it's not even through to the metal yet!! I've bought cheaper blushers and they're not pressed as much and last me a month tops, so... in the long term I'm probably saving ... *does some maths* If I spend £5 and it's been 14 months... I'd have spent £70!!! So it saves me masses of money! £50 so far and I'm probably not half way through it!!
So anyway, after that massive babble! Sometimes, to spend is to save! it's not true for all things... eyeliners will last you as long as any other eyeliner. If you're wanting a soft kohl a great company to go for is Rimmel, it's not that expensive and I use all of them, from their average pencil one to their plastic cased 'exaggerate' which comes with a little blender and sharpener ^_^. Neither are more than £8.
Tip of the day: Use Rimmel eyeliners in 'Black Magic' for under the eye for a less harsh look (than jet black) when you want under eye eyeliner!
